Archie Stouffer Elementary School students take part in International Day of the Girl

On October 10, 36 Grade 7 and 8 students from Archie Stouffer Elementary School had the privilege of attending the Skills Ontario’s International Day of the Girl event at Science North in Sudbury.

The annual event is a day dedicated to celebrating the voices and power of girls, championing their rights worldwide, and reflecting on the challenges they continue to face because of their gender.

Throughout the day, students participated in electrical, hairstyling, and workplace safety workshops, followed by a delicious lunch while listening to an inspiring panel of female high school students who are pursuing pathways in the skilled trades. The afternoon was spent exploring exhibitor booths and the incredible Science North interactive displays.

“Nothing beats this type of hands-on experience in generating interest and helping students consider their future careers,” said TLDSB experiential learning consultant, Katie Albisser. “Having the opportunity to explore Science North and all it has to offer was a huge bonus for all of us.”

TLDSB inclement weather school/education centre closure – February 13, 2025

In anticipation of the winter storm that is forecasted to hit central Ontario with heavy snowfall this evening continuing into tomorrow morning that would impact the safety of travel routes, Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) has made the decision to close all schools, education centres, and child care centres in schools tomorrow, Thursday, February 13.

Please note, schools will not be moving to online learning.

We hope students will take this opportunity to catch up on work, read a book, and/or get outside to play!

We know this is an unusual circumstance and we appreciate parents/guardians for their understanding during this time.

If you have any questions, please contact your child’s school.
